The question is whether I can actually get into the ones I liked...

Yesterday I woke up at 7 AM...An ungodly hour for someone on Spring Break. The parents and I drove to New York, stopping in New Jersey because that's where the hotel was. Now, Tuesday had been a lovely day. The sky had been clear, the weather had been amazing. Unfortunately, Wednesday did not follow suit and it was disgusting. I don't usually mind that sort of weather but in this case I was not in the mood.

FIT was just an information session. From the session I learned that you must declare your major when enrolling and it is almost impossible to switch to another one. I also learned that they require health and physical education credits...Gym in college? Fsck that.

To quote my father and his crap pun, "FIT did not fit."

Pratt, on the other hand, is wonderful.

The campus is nice, the person who took us around was nice. The art on the walls was great but also gave me some hope that I can do it, too. It also doesn't require really high SAT scores (my PSAT score was above their average). They don't need SAT IIs, either. Nice. Only, they need a portfolio, something I do not have nor do I know how to put it together.

We met with an admissions counselor to ask questions. His name was Michael Barry, very young...Jeff's age. He's drawn for DC and Marvel comics, apparently. He recommended taking illustration if you prefer the drawing aspect of design. Very good for me because I've been doubting how dedicated I am to this whole fashion design idea. I like the ability to do more than one thing. Illustration prepares you for pretty much everything that requires drawing. Adri perhaps has a new major in mind...

Now we go back to the whole portfolio problem. I haven't taken an art class in the past year and therefore have no recent work. I don't like doing still life drawings so mine are not very good. I need to take a summer course in figure drawing but can't do it unless I submit all of this crap to the fscking course.

Moore offers a good program, which my mother has just printed the information for and given to me, but they ask for so fscking much.

They want me to: give in a portfolio of 6-10 pieces of my best work, high school transcript, written recommendation from my art teacher, a thoughtful essay describing how I can benefit from attending the course, etc.

I'm doubting whether this is really for high school students and not people in college. I don't think it's fair. Pratt's summer program only asks for a letter of recommendation, no portfolio crap. And Moore's program is supposed to help you build your goddamned portfolio! Why the hell would they need to help you if you already have one?! I know, it's more stuff to put in and they'll help you weed out the crap but I'm not impressed. I want to go to Moore because it's closer than Pratt and the due date is later but I'm now thinking that a Pratt summer course would be a lot better...

Of course, I need a letter of recommendation by the beginning of this coming week...shit. The due date for them is April 1st.

I.am.fscked.

I hate college stuff. They make you think that you can actually get into the school during the tour but then you read the fine print. It all seems so simple but really is hell. I may not be as strong at drawing still lifes as another person but I could be better at cartoony stuff. I may be more creative in what my self-portrait is but it may not be as good as someone who decided to be very traditional about it (traditional being, drawing yourself looking into a mirror and drawing yourself...something like that).

College will drive me crazy.

And I still have to write my Gatsby essay. Fsck.
