Travel Stuffs
Jun. 8th, 2007 03:43 pmJust posted this on the MB looking for advice from the lovely members on travel stuffs but decided it couldn't hurt to put it here, too:
I recently realized that even though I was unable to do my early-summer Europe trip that doesn't mean I can't have one. As I tend to do when overly excited, I've been looking up airfares and stuff like that. My plan so far is as follows:
Arrive in London on August 5th, probably stay with a family member for a night and then go to a hostel. I've been looking at a bunch but the one that has pretty good reviews is Ace Hostel. So here's the question: Do you know of any London hostels that have come highly recommended from friends or family? I would appreciate any help.
Okay, then from London I'd head to Edinburgh. I know that I can get a BritRail pass to do this but they're sort of expensive and I don't know if it's worth it. I would probably stay in Edinburgh for three-four days before heading to Glasgow.
Another question: Which is more youth-friendly, Glasgow or Edinburgh? I want to explore both but can't spend more than a week in Scotland so I have to split my time between the two places (unless there is a third option?). What do you recommend?
My flight back to the US would have a layover in Dublin so I figured, why not stay for a few days if it's not too costly. I know Fion is there (and maybe would let me mooch off her for a place to stay?) and that Meabo/Meg is nearby so it would be nice to visit with them on the way home. I'd only stay for two days, which is definitely not enough time to appreciate Ireland but I would need to get home because school starts up on the 24th and I think going home any later than the 21st is cutting it close.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've never travelled overseas alone before and want to have fun but be safe about it. Thanks so much for any help you can give me! Much love!
