Obama Rally
Apr. 19th, 2008 02:35 pmBarack Obama came to my town today. Dad and I went to check out the rally and saw him speak. For me it wasn't so much seeing him as hearing him. I'm very short and everyone else was too tall. Apparently one of the friends we ran into there was able to get really close to him. I should have stuck with her, then maybe I'd have seen the man. A taller friend in front of me got a picture but I think it's blurry.
The speech was very good. The message was that he doesn't want to play the "game" but end it. He wants to change the way the government works, making it work for the people rather than the corporations. It was kind of idealistic but he also went on to say that it wasn't going to happen overnight. He knows that it will be difficult but he's willing to do it. That sort of thing. He also made some jokes. I love it when politicians have a sense of humor. His first line was something like, "I had a rally with 35,000 of my best friends at Independence Hall" and mentioned "Dick Cheney retiring to an undisclosed location. Somewhere he can hunt" (all not exactly what he said but similar enough). Everyone was really receptive to the speech. Lots of clapping and yelling "yes we can." It was cool to be there even if I couldn't see anything. As Dad said, this guy may be president and this is the only chance we will ever have to see someone who may reach that position.
