I love my family. They may annoy me and piss me off sometimes but overall I love 'em. We had fun yesterday going to two shows and hanging out with more family and eating dinner. Good Food + Good Comany + Good Musical Theatre = Happy. If I hadn't been so tired I may have enjoyed it even more. But still it was pretty damn awesome.
I met up with my parents and Jeff at the hotel around 12:30 and we hung out in the rooms eating WaWa hoagies because they know how much Jeff and I miss WaWa goodness. After our brief relaxation period we went directly to the theatre to start the real reason we even had this weekend: To see Avenue Q. I can see this show over and over again and never tire of it. Seriously, it's my third time and I want to see it again. The cast was different than previously. They were wonderful! I missed Barret Foa as Princeton/Rod but the guy who took over was really good and quite pretty. After the show Dad went back to the hotel to rest or something while the rest of us went to the Edison Cafe next to Beauty and the Beast to meet up with Alan and Jonathan. We had nice conversation and snacked a bit. Alan came with us back to the hotel and we hung out there until dinner.
Uncle Eliel and Jeff and Tess (two other cousins) all met up with us and the dinner was mostly the adults talking while I took a little nap on the table due to exhaustion. Of course, we still had one more show to see...
Evil Dead is a B horror movie about five college students who go into an abandoned cabin in the woods for Spring Break and proceed to be turned into demons and die...well, most of 'em anyway. Someone extremely awesome decided to take this film that has been pariodied so much and do that again...except parody it using musical theatre. That's right, they made Evil Dead: The Musical.
In a really cool underground theatre off Broadway we went to see this play. It's supposed to be the new Rocky Horror and may just be it. It's already got a cult following. The show started off just incredibly amusing and wonderful until the scene where Cheryl, the main character Ash's little sister, gets attacked by the trees. The actress who was playing Cheryl was an understudy but hurt her ankle between that scene and the next. They announced technical difficulties and that the show would start again in five minutes. The audience was totally okay with this because we were just all very chill people and began hanging out, drinking, etc. The guy who played Ash came out and told us that Cheryl had hurt her ankle and couldn't continue but that they had another understudy there...except it wasn't for Cheryl and was a guy. People were totally into continuing the show with this guy playing Cheryl, and it couldn't have been funnier!!! This guy comes out with purple hotpants under cut off shorts and a really tacky long sleever shirt and a horrible wig that's brown (original Cheryl had red hair). At this point Cheryl has been turned into a demon and is trapped in the cellar. Every so often this guy pops out and reads Cheryl's lines off the script. He also sings her songs. He was just awesome! There was a song that went "What the fuck was that?" where Ash and the other male character (Scott) changed the lyrics to sing something like "your sister is now a she-male". I don't think I can adequately describe just how funny this whole thing was. So damn awesome! The show was just great! I want to see it again. I hope they keep the swapping Cheryl half-way through and making her a man thing because it works so well. Maybe they could just have a male and female Cheryl and swap them throughout the show... I totally recommend seeing this. SOGOOD! And it was a perfect way to end the day.
Today, unfortunately, isn't as happy. I don't know why. I'm just not in a good mood. I think it's the impending doom of classes starting again tomorrow and me not wanting to go back. Two days is not enough to recharge.
