Dad went to visit Mum at the ICAN conference. He said we'd only go to see her and get some food so I went, too. It is here this year so Mum and a bunch of people who work with her organised it. It was so nice!
The kids were having tons of fun, singing, dancing, etc. Food was good--especially the cake! It's amazing how outgoing and sweet these kids are. There was kareoke so there was constant singing. Even those who weren't that good kept going because they felt comfortable enough to do so. I took pictures for Mum of everyone having a party.
Seeing as a bunch of you may be going, "what is ICAN and what the hell are you talking about?" I shall explain. ICAN is a group of parents with kids who have anophthalmia or microphthalmia. This means the kids have no eyes, don't have one eye, have small eyes or just one small eye. They often look just like everyone else except for their eyes-- they have sockets but no eye to fill it. They are given fake eyes to help with the growth of their skull and such. Some look a bit different than other kids but are all very cute. Essentially, they are blind in one or both eyes (not so sure about the kids with microphthalmia...that could just be limitted vision).
Mum felt really glad that we were there and showed my father and me off to other people. Was cute. Everyone loves her. Yay!
Anyway, I'm back now and happy that I went despite feeling kinda crampy still. PJ bottoms and a hot water bottle will fix that up, anyway. Plus, how often does one get to see really cute kids singing at the top of their lungs shamelessly?
This sort of thing makes me love people...
