Doctor Who...WTF?

As everyone has been saying, Face of Boe= Jack! I very much like this retcon (if it is a retcon and not RTD pulling a Joss Whedon and planning future seasons out years in advance). It doesn't change much but it's still pretty awesome.
Okay, let's start with my "WTF" reaction. Seriously, what the hell is that ending? Even the Doctor has no fucking clue what's going on! Obviously the Master decided to screw around with the TARDIS other than just doing the whole Paradox Machine thing. Which was freakin' creepy! So did he do the Utopia signal, too? I assume he set it all up but I could be wrong. And what the hell is up with Lucy looking like she's been beaten? That doesn't seem the Master's style at all. No, he would psychologically screw with you rather than beat you. At least that's the impression I got. And the Doctor getting superpowers from the psychic connection? The only thing I don't mind about that is that the Doctor points out that even if the Master has control of everything physical he can't control people's thoughts completely. Sure, he can manipulate people but there is always that part he can't touch. I like how the Doctor encourages people to think for themselves. However, this whole "think of the word Doctor at blahblah o'clock" doesn't exactly seem to be helping him spread the message of nonconformity. But I'm just being picky now.
The episode moved differently than other ones. The pace was okay in the beginning but around the Gollumfication of the Doctor it started to go all wonky. For some reason I couldn't get sucked in as easily as usual. It seemed to disjointed.
I know I sound like a loser who's being overly picky. Overall I did enjoy the finale. It was entertaining and had some fun lines. I'm glad that Martha left. I like her character and didn't like seeing her pining. She's stronger than that and she proved it multiple times in this episode. Plus, now that the Doctor is out of the picture there's another doctor she should get to know. I'm pretty sure she'll be back. The Master dying in the Doctor's arms was fantastic, too. The Doctor is so desperate to not be alone that he can't bear his enemy to die. Almost made me tear up.
OMG I can't wait for the next season!
P.S. WTF is up with the ring? Are hobbits going to begin popping up now?
P.P.S. I still miss Rose! And now Martha is gone, too (sort of)! The next companion better be incredibly awesome!
P.P.P.S. I've analyzed this too much. I guess that means I'm officially a fangirl.
The parents are away until Wednesday and I've got the house to m'self. It's nice but kinda creepy at night. Not too bad, though. I'm just chillin'. Day off tomorrow, which will be nice. Monday will be evil since I have to get up early to go get something for the brochure I need to design but have been putting off designing because I'm not feeling like doing stuff the requires any brain power these days. Of course, I'll get it done. Hopefully before the fifth, which is the tentative due date. Fun.

I maintain the Doctor could have healed the Master himself through a kiss. Or at least he should have tried!

Date: 2007-07-01 05:41 pm (UTC)Doctor Who was taking on some series LotR vibes... the ring at the end (being pulled out the flames no less!), the Doctor as Gollum, the Doctor as Gandalf ("Say hello, Gandalf!"). And the ending? Jesus!Doctor much? Oh boy...
I think the episode started off intense but kind of petered out towards the end. Though I got really REALLY sad when the Master died. I mean, I wanted the Doctor to win but was all "No, don't let the Master die!!!" during it as well.
I hope Martha returns. I don't want there to be some sort of new companion every single season. But I also think it was good that she left. This chasing after the Doctor and knowing it was going to be all for naught needed to be dealt with and overcome.
And the Doctor loses twenty points for 1)shoddy driving and 2)being the Titanic's iceburg.
